I have a Sony Vaio, it has just about everything needed: CDR/DVD combo, Floppy, 1394 X 1, USB X 2, Video out, good graphics and lightweight. Although I like this laptop, in hind-sight I think I would have been better off with a Dell just because I would have been able to order it with Win2K.

Hope theres no trouble with any of those llinks. Thier are some good prices thier, ive always preferred the IBM thinkpads and about anything by Toshiba. Some of the new Dells look pretty good though.

man this is so open ended this thread could go on forever....

you can buy very decent laptops for fairly cheap, even reliable and certified refurbished machines - I think the OEMs have actually outsourced to 3 or 4 laptop makers anyway

what are you looking for, what are you going to do with it, you want a small or large display, is weight a consideration, peripherals and drives, battery life and, if buying used, can you count on the battery unless it's new??

post some details - lots of guys here get a vicarious thrill out of spending someone else's $$ :D

Jetta (http://www.jetta.com/) laptops are supposed to be a step above all the rest. They have low return rates and top notch customer service.

OK you right
I ll make music and i had a dell inspiron p3 (and lots of headache with it)
so i built a p4 1.7 1024 rambus 7200 rpm hd (about 1-2 years ago)
wich was working great but i sold it couse i need a mobile system (lots of reason)
im seeking for a system wich can be just as good like my old
desktop
\
so : hd 7200 rpm 60 gig at least
1024 ram
p4 northwood
cd/dvd burner
FIREWIRE (not just usb) !!!!!!!!!

doesn't matter:
display size
media card reader
weight
battery life
other extras...
