I don't have internet access at work because fun is not allowed during work hrs. Yesterday my comp was acting funny & I cntrl alt del & found 3 instances of winoldap running on my computer.
I work for excel. Which one of you clowns are using my computer.
I won't rat if you give me internet access. One hand washes another.;)

Either someone's doing a covert op or you've got an old app on there doing it's thing.

I swear it wasn't me!;)

I don't think seti requires winoldap (i only use the command line ver, it does not), and furthermore, if seti is running, you should be able to see who it's crediting wus to ;)

edit -
winoldap is for the windoze 16 bit thunker for old software... seti does not qualify :D

Also, outside of SysOpt, most of my internet activities could hardly be categorized as "fun" :t

I use setihide so that must be what is on it. I have winoldap on this comp at home. Setihide has the option to run hidden so i'll do a search today & see if I can find the files if they weren't renamed.
Ok Thunker for old software?. Maybe it isn't seti at all then. Winoldap always comes up on my home computer when I start setihide so i *** umed it wuz the same.:D

 Question is if you didn't put Sethide on that work comp, who did? Find the user_info.sah and open it with notepad.

yeah, winoldap is part of windows. Not sure xacly how it works, but I think it shows up when you run something with 16 bit code. I'm not really sure about the 'thunker' part, it was something i read oh so many years ago... and Mr Hyde was typing for me last night

So, did you find the culprit???

Exactly, winoldap is used to run DOS based apps.

I did various searches & didn't come up with anything. I'll try looking for info.sah like rampage suggested. It may be something else, I'll have to experiment & see if anything I use causes it to come up.
I plan to use this comp for seti myself later on.:D

Actually... if it's a Win9X/ME comp, Winoldap IS running when you run the CLI and SETI Driver, or other S@H CLI controllers. I recall that from the other weekend, running S@H on the XP1800+...

See if you have any programs that are run from a .pif or .bat file.

If you do, look in their properties and make sure the box "Close on exit" is checked.

Is the SETI Driver application running? Not sure about SETI Hide, but if the blue SETI Driver icon is there, open it and uncheck "Hide Processing". You should now see a little DOS-based window called "Winoldap". Within this window, you should see some SETI info from the CLI as it goes about its business.

I think he said he never installed SH/SD because it's a work machine.

Understood :)

Just trying to figure out why it's running SETI (if it is indeed running SETI) hidden without a companion "steering" program.

It may not be SETI at all...

When I Googled winoldap I found all sorts of programs that use it and people who were finding it hard to be rid of. ;)

I never did find anything for sure related to seti however i haven't got to spend much time on the comp in question as I've been working with someone else doing thermography & they use a different computer. I'm pretty sure it is just a 16 bit ap so maybe I can sneak seti on it later.:D

I don't have internet access so can't download updates for anything if I install something like adaware. Maybe i can copy the whole folder, updates & all & try it. I don't want to screw up the computer because the so called I.T. guy at the site is very territorial & would lay an egg if things didn't work out. So long as I don't lose the data base for the oil lab I guess I don't care what it is. It may even be some sort of trojan they have on there to monitor what I'm doing, they seem awfully worried about the possibility of doing something other than WORK. Bah.
