Hooray! I kept my wits and didn't throw my PC to its death in my driveway. I need to upgrade my Intel motherboard's Phoenix BIOS from the series P11 to the series P18. The reason for this is to install an Evergreen Technologies 766 Mhz processor. The BIOS upgrade took, but the hard drive isn't listed in the set-up utility...the other devices on the secondary master/slave channel slots are, however. Under primary master/slave the word "none" appears in both slots. I tried re-setting the drive selection to auto detect, but upon rebooting I get the same result: no hard drive listed.
Does anyone know how to correct this so that I can move on with my installation?

I'm sure you've checked the obvious thing, cables plugged in etc.

You could try putting the drive onto the secondary channel and seeing if it finds it there?

Also check the jumpers on the hdd are set correctly...your new BIOS may require a more rigorous configuration. What make and type of drive is it?

Last night I flashed the BIOS for my motherboard (just bought two days back). Everything went fine, and it asked to restart the computer and go into BIOS setting and select the load setup default. Did that and next time it wont' boot, everything powered up but no video signal (almost gave me a heart attack). Next opened the case and shorted the CMOS clear jumper for 15-20 minutes. Reset the jumper and everything boot up fine.

Point of the story, did you setup defualts after the flash? you could also try clearing the CMOS.

Thanks for the info. The hd is a western digital caviar 4gig that came with the unit Gateway G6-266)It may very well be that I have to change the jumper setiings on the hd. Hmmmm...Western Digitals's website? I'll try that. Also, the idea of running a test by setting up the hd on the primary slave side is solid. I'll check the settings again, but I've been going around in circles withe the settings...same ol' message on a dos screen: Unable to find operating system.
Thanks to everyone so far. Who needs TV when such a real-life drama can be had?
