Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Geforce 4 cards ???
I'm taking the advice of a fellow member. But when i went shopping for a Geforce 4 card. I noticed that ther are many types out there, I buy most of my stuff off Ebay. I noticed some of the cards have fans built into them while others don't. but they have the same properties. 128MB, 8X GF4 so on so on.. Can you help me make the right choice. I'm upgrading from Geforce 2 card. And money is a issue. I'm trying to keep it kinda cheap, since I need 3 of them.

if you get a geforce 4, make sure it is a TI series card, whatever you do, do not get an MX you will see no performance improvement over the geforce 2 you are using. my friend has a TI 4200 that plays stuff like vietcong and rainbow six 3 very nicely, the 4800 and 4600 are the more high end cards of the series. i believe that all 4800's had 8x agp as with some 4200's (you want that). and get 128mb of memory (if you like purdy games).
btw, the 4800 SE is a lame version of the 4800, stay away.
Thank you so much. As I was just looking at some GF4 cards on a dutch auction for $49.95 and they are MX type. I will go look for some Ti versions. Again thanks:D you may have saved the day.

glad i could help, as long as you stick with a TI card you will see a VERY noticeable difference.
good luck:t

HEY!!! You're using my avatar!!
I'll let you slide since you are from Davenport. I am moving out to the quad cities next year because my wifes family is in Silvis and Bettendorf. How do you like it out there in corn country? I am kind of nervous going from the big city to there but I hear good things about the place (from her family so it may be biased lol).
LoL. I looked all over for something different, Since I play Wolfenstein enemy terriorty a lot. I thought this would be the best one for me. Hope you don't move here till after the new year! Since you metioned Family on both sides of the river and the 74 bridge is under major repair causing one lane traffic each way. This would be your main line of travel across the river (mississippi) from bett. seem during the day long waiting delays. or drive the extra distance to one of the other bridges. not to bad here. I'm a stay at home kind of dad. But if you like to go out the quad cities has alot to offer. concerts at the mark, Cool 3D movies at the Imax, the screen is huge, it's from floor to ceiling and wall to wall i'd guess 40 ft high and maybe 80 ft wide, and your 30 ft away from it. we have the steam wheelers arena football, the mallards Ice hockey. very good teams. the River bandits basball. I could go on for hours. heck if you want 1 hour away is a drive in movie theater like the old days. I think you'll like it here. and if you run a company, i'm looking for a jOB. lol :D
I should have picked the avstar with the tank. I was in the service as a tank crewman also. so it would have fit fine. Someday i'll check around. Right now I must clean house. Tommorrow is trash day, and wife has school. no she's not 10. she's going for RN (Nurse) and will support me soon I hope LoL.
Later Rob :t

Do you really think so? my MSI ti4800 se overclocks to 320 core 705 mem and gets over 14000 in 3dmark 2001 se on a 2600+

The SO part is that you are telling people to stay away from them when they are a much better card than ti4200 cards and the vast majority will overclock passed ti4800 stock speeds, most 4800se cards are 4800 that have had there clock turned down like the ati 9500 series v's the 9700, you get the same card but save yourself some money.

ti4800se is actually what u would call a ti4400 with 8x thats it and most companies never produced in great numbers 8x ti4600 but did do the 4800 se in numbers you wont go wrong if u get a ti4800 se i love mine from gainward overclocks very very nicely too like 335/700 nicely
Ok I hit the store, I seen a Geforce FX 5200 . This a good one for games like wolfenstein enemy terroirity ?:t

ok i admit im wrong bout the 4800 se, however, a regular ol' 4800 is still better:
bout the 5200: im pretty sure those cards were poop, anyone here to back me up on this? id say if you want a cheap card, go with the TI series, and if you can upgrade a level in price, get a radeon 9500 or 9600.
Again, I'm searching Ebay, and I see many Ti cards, But from different brands, all geforce 4 Ti 128MB DDR but different makers i guess, Dose it matter, like PNY , NVidia , MSI , ASUS. Are they all more or less the same Card??:t

yeah pretty much, msi or asus may put a spiffy heat sink or change the clock speeds but it's pretty much the same (you wont go wrong with an 8x agp 128mb TI)
