I'm not very happy with the maximum volume level I get on my laptop out of windows media player. My speakers aren't even being taxed when both system and wmp are at maximum volume level.

Does anyone know of an app that increases system volume?

I normally don't like to do this but it's been a couple of days.... BUMP!

Have you tried double-clicking the volume icon and turning up the WAV slider?

Yes, all sliders to maximum....

Why kind of laptop? Which version of Win Media Player.
I had the dame problem with my Viao. For some reason the Sony app's and Real player do play back louder than Windows media player. Set those apps as default.

Why would you want to hear distortion anyway? It sounds like you have a well balanced system.

It's a grz610. I cleared all the sony **** off of there and threw on xp pro. They do a horrible job of updating drivers... this is by far the worst system I've ever owned.

I'm gonna get a new one at xmas and I've only had this one about 6 months.

All because your speakers don't sound distorted? That seems like a foolish reason to toss a laptop.

He never said he wanted distortion, in fact he said his speakers weren't being taxed when using wmp, I'll give him the benefit of doubt here and assume he's heard other pgms with volume more to his liking.

No Apostle 83, if the controls are all at max, that's it. The problem is prolly in wmp, you might search msoft knowledge base for a way to turn it up.

If you use Winamp, there's a preamp volume fader that can compensate for low audio level in soundfiles, you might try it :t

No kidding. No matter what Sony tells you, DO NOT UPGRADE THE OS. They build their laptops with the OS as a major component. I tried to upgrade my PFC 650 to W2K pro, using their "upgraded" drivers etc. Never worked right after that.
To get the system to work "right" had to use the Sony recovery disks. All works fine now after recovery except back to the BSOD.

Thats ok, as I gave it to my 7 year old daughter. Magic Bus runs fine on it for her.

BTW, the original OS was Win ME, and I have a Toshiba laptop now with W2k running just fine.

I upgraded the OS and it functions much better with my clean settings. I am not happy though, with Sony's lack new graphic drivers, etc.

In the future my laptops will be hewlitt packard, my desktops will remain homebuilt as always.

Certain functions will work better. When I upgraded, the OS loaded faster, Office, network and other functions worked better. Others did not. Regardless of the graphics drivers or the software, playing DVDs or other media files was trash. I loaded all of the "new" drivers and software as required by Sony. Not worth it. The thing works fine with ME reloaded, though I have kept all software to the basics for my kid. At 7 years old, I don't think she is going to try to push the thing to hard. Kind of like an eMachines. Good if you don't want to upgrade, don't load a heck of a lot of apps, or try to push it. Won't buy a Viao as a desktop nor as a laptop.
