To increase the numbers of usb ports.

#1 would be the easiest as long as you don't exceed the bandwidth or millivolt limits of the root.

I might add that the more devices you have attached to each root hub, the slower each will operate. It's a shared bandwidth setup, just like on a 10/100 ethernet hub. I might be mistaken, but I think if you get the piece from best buy, it'll be like getting a second root hub, instead of one labeled "General Purpose Hub" like that Asound is.

So if I want to use a couple of devices use the hub and when using a lot of devices use the other device
