Have a Yamaha scsi 8424 old cd writer - Supports overburning
Recently bought 99 minute 900mb cdr but the cd writing package only recognises 700mb.
Doesnt recognise 80min 730mb cd-rw at all. Orange book standards problems methinks!!!
Is this symptomatic of the actual hardware or the Nero writing software - Pretty sure it must be the recorder.
Can these discs be read in most 52 speed cd rom drives or do you need a specific model to support these discs.
Prassi primocd seems to support up to 1.4gb cdr.
From my browsing the recorder should support up to 88 mins but i cant get Nero to recognise the cdrw without spitting it out or record onto the cdr's.

I don't think I have understood the question correctly; when you enable overburn on Nero, doesn't it let you take it to wherever you want to?
CD-R99 media do not comply to the CD Red-Book standard. If you experienced problems using CD-R80 media then forget about CD-R99 media as it will not work at all!
For now CDRWin, Feurio!, DiskJuggler & CDRecord support writing up to 99 minutes but most likely all CD-R recording packages will be supporting the new media in the next few weeks!

it should burn it if overburning is enabled....Most 52x CDRW have max 800MB support. As is they are not normal standards.
You can change the yellow and the red marker for the status bar under Nero. That would indicate whether you have crossed the limit or not.
My asus 52x supports it but would only show up as 800MB on checkin the disc info. Maybe a future firmware update may recognise these cds.

Its a Yamaha 8424 - 8 speed write , 4 speed rewrite 24 speed read.
Yeah already altered the limits in nero but it doesnt even attempt to check the cdrw just spits it back out - the recorder supports overburning if you check the link but im not sure how much overburning although it says 88 min xx sec it cant do either disc - need more info.

Well, there is new firmware (http://www.yamahamultimedia.com/yec/helpcenter/firmware/Windows/8424E10J.EXE) for your burner (assuming it's an internal IDE drive) but judging by the fix history, it won't solve that problem

Only five post left ot the magical 1000 Bassman!!!
As I said in the first post its SCSI - all my stuff is updated to latest firmware and drivers.
Not many answers on other forums on this topic!!!
Seems to depend on both the burner and the software.

But if the special layer that identifies the CD type isn't accepted/recognized/understood by the burner...no deal...at least that's how I'm thinking

Yep you are right on that one - that seems to be the case with the cdrw - just spits it back out - its 730mb
The cdr on the other hand is 900mb but it seems to accept it ok - just have to figure how to write to it - need new software methinks
Feurio looks good - too many homers to do at the mo - really busy week plus im on a Novell CNA course all this week.
busy busy busy
I only really need the extra space for my "ahem" larger than usual movies - no names mentioned!"""
Congrats - ultimate - wonder whats next and at what number of posts - looks like muahaha whatever that means.
