I think that default setting on this download is 'High Detail' only. And by the looks of it...like the 3D Mark's...you cant change the setting unless you part with some 'hard earned stuff'.
Not to worry.

Does this bench rely more on the gfx card or is it a pretty good bench of overall system performance?
Bigjakkstaffa
09-18-2003, 12:39 PM
Given that it supports DX7/8 and 9 feature sets it loosk to be a much more representative benchmark than 3dmark2003 which heavily punishes users without DX9 hardware support

Fisrt of all...you run at 1280x1024.......the staddard benchmark is 1024x768....Ansio: 4x....Deatils: V High.
Running at what you did will give a lower score!
Second...its a DX9 test...your Ti4600 will not perform the DX9 effects which will probably give a lower score also...similar to 3dmark2003.

honestly im not sure...even not overclocked you should be getting much much higher scores than that. What settings are you using for your benches? (resolution, AA, AF, etc..) using higher than 1024x768 will reduce your scores.

why is that? I found that if you set directx too low or high you can lose a few hundred points ...but your's is much more than just settings alone! you should be getting at least the 40,000 mark with that system. you might try updating and tweaking the BIOS and it's settings and re-installing DX9 and Catalyst drivers (you do have DX9 installed I assume?).

Set to the minimum (performance) settings for the test, run higher for better visuals in games. Direct 3D is whats used in Aquamark, so thats the only one you need to change.

It seems like Powercolor is playing it fast and loose with the 9700Pro Card specs as 325/310 is supposed to be the default clocks of a 9700Pro.
Your core speed of 300 is not too bad(Although still below spec), but that memory speed is even below the stock clock of my 9500Pro which is 270Mhz.
Does the memory have heat sinks on it?, or can you see what Make and speed it is rated at? Can't believe that it won't run faster than it is set at now.
Try bumping the speed up 2-3Mhz at a time and running some benchmarks or games until you start to get screen corruption and then back it off a few Mhz and you'll have found the best speed to run it at. It may not run stably at 325/310, but it may run faster than it is now. Work up to it slowly and see.
Glad you posted. Now I know Powercolor is shaky when it comes to Model specs and I won't send my customers their way for a video card.

The card is made by PowerColorI don't have any personal experience with Powercolor, but I remember reading another post in the past couple of days here at Sysopt where someone said the same thing as Jakk. They're misleading folk with card labeling.
Download Aida32 (http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32), It will tell you exactly what card you have, from there you can make a realistic assesment of the score you should be getting and how much you should have paid for the card in the first place.

I have AIDA 32 on my system, and it says I have a Radeon 9700 Pro. Bottom line, I have an ATI 9700Pro "built by PowerColor, powered by ATI." You learn from your mistakes, and I'm still learning, and I will buy "Built and Powered by ATI" from now on.

You need to be careful, although you can get thermal epoxy, too much of it will just act like a blanket, can you get spring clips instead?

naw man, just use the stuff that comes with the ram sinks, you should be plenty fine with that.

it feels like the thermal tape w/ the ramsinks dont do much........ like it doesnt add any more headroom for overclocking or anything

Not really, it just helps pull away excess heat, even with my heavy duty kick *** cooler i have on my vid card, i still cant get it that fast.
