your cd key should work. Right now I would say to just double check that you have entered the key correctly.
sorry if that sounds stupid to you but it does sometimes happen.

IF this software is already installed on another computer, then this is a violation of the EULA that you HAD to agree to when installing windows.
The End User License Agreement clearly states that the operating system software may only be installed on ONE operational computer.
SYSOPT moderators take a very dim veiw of threads of this inclination.
If it is NOT installed on another machine, then the previous post is correct.
Accept, Please my most humble apology http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Richard_C, thou art most rightly correct.
when end users abuse the end users licencing agreement then what we are really saying to the developer is that "we don't want you to create any more product".

Just get online and search for Windows 98 serial. I'm not advocating this, but I had to do it when I had a botched install and it wouldn't take the original number when I reinstalled in on the same machine. After the install, you can go into the registry and input the correct serial number. However, loading the operating system on two machines is a violation of the EULA.
mmmm...
I have 5 computers but Win2000 Pro installed. I have always used the same CD key even if I have 5 licences.
Does that count as a EULA violation?

Reading the license agreements is always a good idea. I know their long and tedious- boring, but it is always in your (the users) best interest. Even if you plan to ignore, read it. For example, after reading realnetworks, I decided not to install (they basically admit *at least used to* that it was spyware and any info collected could be used for blah blah blah). Not too long ago, I forgot this little piece of advice and downloaded and installed an FTP program to download movies. I discovered it was also spyware. Tried to uninstall then manually remove the rest and my comp bit it (rather, I killed it). Had to reinstall everything. I later read the user agreement- had I done before installing, I would have saved myself countless hours. Good luck.

Any more questions about why Microsoft is trying to stop casual pirating with WPA? This is no less stealing than if the software was shoplifted from the store.
Wahoo what have i caused??
It was ment for one system cant afford 2 systems and 2 win 98 cd s http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif lol

Looks like we all missed the mark on that one. The short answer is "yes", you can use a single CD key to install multiple times on the same or other machines.
I'm confused, though. Are you getting an error message when you put the CD key in? Any chance that maybe you're trying to use a CD key from a slightly different version, such as Win98 vs Win98 secoond edition?
If it is not taking the key, there's no need to buy another copy. MS can generate a CD key if you need them to.
