Is that a problem? They are better off as separate masters anyway.

Try jumpering both as cable select.

Funny that, I juat bought an 80gb Maxtor to go alongside a Seagate 20Gb. No conflicts. Maybe try swapping drives around....

When ye say yer pc craps itself, what actually happens? It wont boot? It freezes? It gives ya errors? One drive wont work? :t

I've had the same types of problems mixing WD and Maxtor drives and CS didn't always solve the problem, take a look at your BIOS to see how it's seeing the drives, try a new cable, and I know it sounds weird but seems to me there was a thread about using the middle cable connector rather than the end if using the WD as a master???

heck - you've got two drives so I normally just screw around with the jumpers and settings until I get it right

p.s. BpB - still haven't solved it on one of my XP machines - it pauses for a moment and the WD drive "disappears" - it's just a backup drive anyway so one of these days I'll fix it when I have time
