I have been trying to install Windows 2000 Pro on my desktop, for some time now. I am running
AMD Athlon 1.33ghz
Asus A7A266
ATI Rage Fury 128
256mb SDRAM
SBLive!
3Com NIC
and an Ultra DMA 33 Western Digital HD

Every time I either try to update or do a clean install(after formating). I get to the point in the install when Setup runs the HD checker and the progress indicater doesn't move for about 2 minutes and then I get an error that the Hard drive either has an error or it is corrupted. When I run the western digital apps I don't find any error and Win98 scandisk doesn't find any either. Anybody ever seen this one before?

Thanks

are you sure the cd doesnt have any scratches??? maybe try cleaning it and running setup again after you fdisk and format (although i know 2k will do this as well) just a thought

Its not the CD.
1.) I have tried different disks just in case one was bad.

2.) By the time that HD checker is running setup has already copied the files to the HD.

The hardrive is like 1 1/2 years old, so I really don't think it would be incompatible(not that I have ever heard of an incompatable HD.)

Very Strange

There are some known issues between VIA chipsets (686B southbridge mostly) and SB Live! (some NICs too, I think) sound systems. I think if it were me, I would try loading Windows with only ram and video and see how it goes.

I have a similar problem with a new Wester Digital HD.I had to try the install 3 times before it was complete.I contacted Western Digital regarding this issue and their response is ,
"It is recommended that you do not use The Data Lifeguard Tools EZ Install utility when
installing Windows 2000 or Windows NT."
Data lifeguard would also hang, only the exit function would work.
