Guys

Currently system...

P4 2.4B (533)
Asus P4B533-V
IGb DDR 333 (PC2700) RAM

I have a chance to upgrade these components as somone has offered to buy them as part of a system with all my old components. I have aside a PSU, Case, Fans, GF4 Ti4200 64Mb...which at present are all sitting collecting dust. Using the above chip..mobo..and RAM I could build a near full system and upgrade to better. Would I notice much difference if I went to an 800FSB P4 and mobo....or an AMD Barton of some description and Epox board or Asus Nforce 2. It pobably wont cost much...but will take a bit of time building a couple of systems. Is it worth it ....if so any recommendations on chip and board that I will notice a big difference?

Thanks a lot

Ok, I'm confused.
Are you looking to sell the listed items to a friend...and upgrade as a result of this?

This should spark a little debate.

For the money...Asus or EPoX with the NForce Chipset.

Save the money, get the Barton 2500 and Overclock it to 3200 levels. Live happily ever after...

But...a 2.4 pentium, asus and 1GB of PC2700 RAM, honestly...I'm not sure you'll see a big enough performance jump to warrant it...unless you drained the wallet and went top of the line Pentium 3....whatever they're at now, 800 FSB and a board to support it.

I've read the 2.4 P4 w/ HT and 800FSB overclock well...though. See if your board will support the 800FSB with a BIOS update...and that could save you big...

Sorry...yes I meant sell of the excess parts I have plus my current mobo (P4B533-V) P4 Chip and some Ram.....and buy a newer chip, mobo & RAM.
Would the Barton 2500 clocked to near 3200 speeds be a much better performer than my current p4 (2.4B @ 2.6Ghz)?
What Mobo would be best for getting this performance and what kindof RAM would also be needed to get to 3200 speeds?

Cheers

Ok..thanks for clearing it up!

Which mobo around here is like asking Ford or Chevy...

However, I'll go out on a limb and say EPoX or Asus.

Asus, A7N8X deluxe or non, depending on your wants. Deluxe has the soundstorm, dual LAN and on board RAID.

EPoX board, 8RDA+. I believe it has the soundstorm digital sound, Onboard RAID...but no dual LAN...(No big deal)

And...it's about 30 bucks US $ cheaper.

While both are solid boards, I'll have to say the Epox has the edge in overclocking....hands down.

Either way, get the revision 2.0 Epox or Asus....more stable than previous versions.

Will the 2500 clock @ 3200 perform compared to the 2.4? I'd have to say yes...but probably not leaps and bounds better...

Memory? Same thing, Ford or Chevy.
I like Crucial. Geil, Kingston Hyper X are good offerings too.

Get PC3200, either way. It'll give you that extra overhead to overclock...
3200 ratings from the CPU is acheived by a 200 MHz FSB.
PC3200 is designed to run at 400MHz (which in AMD land is a 200 MHz FSB)

Hope this helps. Alot of this is by user preference, so you might get a few different answers or suggestions here or there...just my .02

BTW, I have the ti4200, 128MB version. I love it...good little card. Gonna wait till the 9800 gets a little cheaper...so, unless you're a moderate to heavy gamer..that'll do ya for a while.
