Is there a scanner available that can check for viruses on motherboards? Thanks in advance for the help.

are you talking about BIOS viruses...from what i've read, they are very uncommon...

http://www.hkcert.org/faq/virus_pb.html#q13

an antivirus program such as AVG will scan files that start up on your computer well before the Windows screen appears, and let you know if anything is infected there....for all around protection, i recommend AVG

Yeah I'm hoping it isn't the case but I have my suspicions. I thought it might just be an incompatibility problem with AMD and NVIDIA but my system ran fine for over a year and now is locking up in 3dgames regardless of reformatting or using WinXP/98.

I will try that AVG and post the results here.

Reset the BIOS to factory defaults.

You might also want to test the ram. That is the first thing I do when I get random crashes.

if you're not running AV software now (and you should be) you could enable your MOBO virus protection in your BIOS and see what happens

but be sure to disable it when you install Norton, AVG, whatever

and am I wrong or is AVG gone forever as freeware with their move to AVG 7.0????
