Madden 2004 said if you have a problem connecting to another player online to unblock port 3658 in your firewall.

Does anyone know how exactly to do this???

Does only one players computer firewall need to be unblocked or both players computer???

Thanks

PC or PS2? Any router? DSL, cable, or dial-up? Did you register and create an account with Sony? How far can you get when attempting to connect? What type of firewall?

I use Madden 2k4 with my PS2 directly over DSL with a Linksys wired router. The NAT firewall doesn't block anything.

I would consult the manufacturer site for the firewall you have and find out how to manage it -if this is in fact the real issue...you should be able to grant certain programs access if you are using a personal firewall on a PC.

Make sure that these ports are open:

- Ports 10500-10519 are TCP and are outgoing ports for connecting to the NCAA server.

- Port 13505 is TCP and is an outgoing port for connecting to the EA Messenger (buddy list) server.

- Port 3658 is UDP and is an incoming/outgoing port for connecting to another user to play a game.

- Port 7777 is UDP and is an incoming/outgoing port for connecting to another user for headset use during a game.

Ports 10500-10519 and 13505 are TCP and only for outgoing connections. If a user can connect to the servers and enter the Online Menu and lobby, they do not need to do anything with these ports. If they cannot, they need to be open for TCP.

Ports 3658 and 7777 are UDP and used for connecting to other users and playing games. Port 3658 must be open for UDP for a game to be played.

Madden 2004 for PS2.

I use a router from Speed Stream.

I have a cable modem.

My firewall is Zone Alarm Pro.

The thing is I play online all the time except for a few people who I can't get a connection with.

How do I get past this problem and be able to play against them?

Whatever the solution that I have to do, do they have to do it as well?

Thanks.

If you are connecting and playing others, those ports are open.

I'd say it may be the players you are trying to connect with. They may be missing a step. Do they have the ability to log on to the EA servers and browse rooms? If so, have they played anyone else online yet?

If they get that far, try finding out what their user names are and do a search for them when you are online. Consult the Madden manual, but I believe when you are online, you can press the circle button on the controller and bring up your buddy/search list.

You can find a registered user even if they are not online. Add them to your 'buddy list' and issue a challenge directly through the buddy list instead of creating rooms.

I have had problems finding rooms in the past and issuing a challenge directly seems to work better when you have the user in your list...good luck!

PS -I use this name when I am on, so you can search for me too. l8nighthype is my usual ID. My PS2 is in repair, but I will be beck in about a week...

The funny thing is that my friend and I play online Madden 2004 for PS2 all the time against other players.

When I am at my girlfriends house or my own home and I challenge him to a game online, we just can't get a connection.

After I challenge him or he challenges me, the connection bar shows only 1 solid red block.

Against everyone else, the bars are all green. It's **** weird considering it happens at both locations.

Any suggestions.

P.S.

Once your PS2 is fixed look for me online and we'll play.

My name: xkalybr

Friend's name: Seattle Rain

Thanks.
