Their timeline hasn't been updated since Dec 2002 and little chatter. But, if the timeline is still good, we may be getting started on Phase 2 as early as next month. Have to wait and see.

Here's the latest info (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/index.html)

The general consensus on the MBs at Berkeley's site is that the SETI@Home data server will run until November sometime, and then BOINC will pick up shortly thereafter.

I gotta say it... unless we can turn off forced updates of the BOINC client, I won't run it :( I don't hand over that kind of control to Billy-boy Gates, and I sure as hell won't do it for an open source project that has a bunch of giggling developers.

[EDIT] - if you read the site, it says that all components MUST run version 2 or higher presently (for the beta testers). I fully support an upgraded piece of software, but I'm still looking for the part that hopefully says that we can turn off forced updates.

Source code availability
BOINC is distributed under a public license that allows it to be used freely for public or private distributed computing projects, with the restriction that it cannot be used as the basis for commercial products. BOINC applications need not be open source. Each project must provide and maintain its own server systems; these systems can be set up easily using open-source components (MySQL, PHP, Apache).

If anyones geeky enough to set it up we could run the whole shabang from the setiteam server :cool:

Just a thought :(

From the mailing list;

"We're in the process of adding a SETI@home application to the beta test.
At this point we have the application compiled only for SPARC/Solaris,
but we should have Windows and linux/x86 versions in a couple of days.

This has introduced a new problem: the SETI@home work units,
which can't get sent anywhere (we have only a few Solaris hosts)
are preventing Astropulse work units from getting sent.
This is why everyone is getting "no work" messages.
This will be fixed shortly.
