hey i just put together my new system athlon xp 3000+ (400fsb), 1 gig of ddr 3200 (2x512), asus a7n8x-deulxe, geforce 4 ti 4600.....i downloaded the apporopriate files from asus's website to flash the bios. when i boot off the floppy and try to execute the aflash.exe it gives me and error saying it cannot find the BIOS hook...and wont let me do anything else. anybody got any ideas? Also on a completely different subject, this mobo has dual LAN onboard. i was wondering what dual lan is actually good for? Could i run one cat-5 directly from my computer to another computer and share files / printers and what not? Just wondering what people use this dual lan for. Thanks guys..BTW this forum OWNS:t

im not sure about the BIOS but the dual lan is usually used for broadband internet on a computer thats part of a network or networks that use the ring topology, ie. a computer with another on each side of it.

If you dont have a switch it allows instant 3 system networking for multi-gaming/file sharing. I think that was the general idea. If you do have a switch and only one net connection-net to one port-other pcs networked through other one and ya got instant multiplayer and net connection shared without need of a router (pc acts as one). Lots of possibilites.:D

on the bios issue. Is yours rev. 2.0 or not. Must use right bios for version of mobo. Also reset your bios to defaults BEFORE flashing and after to make flash go proper. Helps tons on this mobo-trust me. I didnt reset and all kinda wierd things happend-all recoverable though. DONT boot off floppy-use the built in flash prog that shows up when booting the system. Press the key the screen says and away you go. Only use the floppy for the image-not to boot from.:t

I second P4.
Use the Asus Easy update for BIOS. But...I've used their .den site (denmark) for the BIOS. Seems the US is ALWAYS busy on their FTP server...

For Dual Lan...I bridge the connection, and that allows me to work on a second PC using High Speed Internet.
I also use the VGA port on my LCD for the second PC.
Great for building PCs...getting drivers and updates from the internet without having to use a floppy or CDR from PC to PC.

Drawback is...the original PC with the Asus has to be powered on...

I'm sure you can use it for Printer Sharing, as well...provided it had a NIC in it.

I didn't look into this too much...but on mine, for the bridge to work, the cable from my router (upstairs) has to be plugged into the Nvidia ethernet, and the second PC plugged into the 3 COM ethernet. Not sure if there is a setting I'm missing...but, who cares. What works..works!!
