What is up with my Ping in CS!

I began playing CS about a year and half ago. I live in Anchorage Alaska and have a 256k DSL connection and remember connecting to AK servers with a 70ish ping maybe dropping down as low as 59ish ping, but recently I cant seem to get below 100 ping for the life of me? I haven't moved my computer to a different line, but I have upgraded to different motherboards.

Is there some kind of setting that I need to change in CS or my mobo or something/anything I can do to get BACK to my 70ish ping?

You might want to check your rate, cl_updaterate, cl_cmdrate. Go to the console, and type in net_graph 2 and play around with those cvars and try to find the settings that are good for you.

If you have upgraded your OS, you might also want to look into checking the network optimizations in it. XP has enough to make a nice difference from a vanilla install to optimized speed demon. :x

When you are at the list of servers, see what your internet connection is set to, and adjust if necessary.
