It's been awhile since there has been a recruiting post put up, so I'd like to invite any and all members of the Sysopt forum to join the Sysopt RC5 crackin team! It doesn't cost a thing and if you're the lucky winner that finds the secret key, you could win yourself a thousand dollars US! Thant's about enough for a Tyan Thunder main board and a pair of Athlon SMP chips to go with it!

Here's a link to the Team's home page: http://www.sysopt.com/rc5team.html

A link to the Team's Stats page (created and maintained by Virus): http://www.statsaholic.com/newrc5/byemail.php

And a link to our un-official Tutorial and FAQ page: http://webpages.cableamericahsa.com/Randy48/rc5.htm

If you have any questions, post them in the Distributed Computing forum or shoot me an e-mail!

Randy

As an incentive, for all those you join Team Sysopt today and crack a minimum of 500 blocks a day for 60 consecutive days, I'll dump 10,000 blocks under your user name!

WOW http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I'd almost quit just to be able to rejoin to get that deal! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Thanks Randy!

Can I get in on this action. I should be able to make that number. Will it be 500/day average for 60 days? My cows still aren't dumping through AOL, and I seldom sign on through my other ISP, so I will prolly just dump them 1 or 2 times a week.

Not many takers???? I'll let the off stand until Midnight EST (US) Monday, July 16, 2001. The deal is, you register and become a member of the Sysopt RC5 crackin Team, and crack a minimum of 500 blocks per day for 60days consectutively and I'll crack 10,000 blocks for you when/if you meet those standards! You're responsible to remind me when you've reached that mark!

Some people may not be able to do 500 a day with older equipment ,but still want to help out.
how about.
5,000 for 250 a day.
10,000 for 500 a day.

I suppose I could do 5K 250 per day for 60 consecutive days for anyone new joining the team during this time!

Doesn't really appear that anyone is interested in giving back a little something to there favorite free help desk http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

I was always tempted at joining the team but my machine it's and AMD k6-2 500.! I have a more powerful one (1.2ghz) but in that one I don't have a modem (I'm using linux so I'm trying to find a good modem and not those winmodems.!)so....

But maybe later.!!!

nunyadam
07-15-2001, 02:46 PM
eagle,
that k6-2 should be good enough for 250 a day. i'm sure randy could teach you how to "sneaker net" that 1.2 ghz,and I do believe there is a linux version.

It is tempting but you know some of us do support other teams. Our team has finally moved up to 366. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I would love to, I can't figure it out quickly and seem to have a short attention span for that. How's this? Someone be patient and help me set it up and I will dedicate one of my computers for 4 weeks 24 7 just in the pasture. Nothing to do but graze with the little 800mhz processor and free reign to crack crack crack. After that I will make sure the computer gets plenty of grazing time (just not 24x7 maybe 18 hours per day)

Well I did join today but I can't run it 60 day cause I'm going on vacation.
How much is 500 Blocks Is that alot? How long would it take to get done on a couple 466CPU's?

I dunno...I'm probably the only long standing member here who DOESN'T crack RC5. I did for a little with another members help...man it's complicated to setup. Soon I reformatted and didn't see the point in doing it again...sorry guys I still don't see the point http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. That coupled with my 56k connection with limited online time won't help...on the other hand I'm sure everyone would love to have my 800mhz P3 for RC5. Ahhhhh it feels great to be lusted after http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

warthog ,
It does'nt have to be online all the time .
The only time it would need some sort of connection is to update the in-out buffer's.
Also with randy's tutorial it's not that hard to set-up.
As far as your p-3 goes it would be nice to have on the team ,but i only lust after Duron's and T-bird's .(and randy48's vic 20)

Dove,
those 2 cpu's of your's will do more than 500 block's a day easy.
You can load up your in buffer with enough block's to keep them running while your gone, and then just dump when you get back. (I think as long as you average 500 a day randy would let it slide.)
basicly you need to come up with 30,000 block's in 60 day's.(that's around sept 16th give or take a day)

muno, I'd be happy to let you pay me for each block you crack/time you run the client, the state of Georgia is charging $.59 a second -
http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum7/HTML/001524.html

surrealchereal and Warthog, setting up the client is easier then installing windows! Go to the tutorial site, take a minute or two to glance at the tutorial, download the client (the install version), double-click on the file, click yes/next on the defaults, after it installs, a page will come up and ask "if you want to configure and run the client", uncheck both boxes, click next and finish. Use either one of the "ini makers" to automacticly create your configuration (dnetc.ini) file, all you have to do is put in your e-mail address! Copy it to your distributed.net directory/folder, and tell it to go (if your computer doesn't listen, click on start/programs/distributed.net and click on the file with the "cow head" icon).

HomeYield, why wait! The sooner you start crackin, the sooner you start getting those "free $1000 lotto tickets (blocks)) http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Wart- not to blow your socks off, but one 900 Duron will make 2-P3 800s look sick! But we'd still like to have you on the team!

About 7 1/2 hours until the cut-off!

guess this doesn't apply to anyone who joined yesterday? =] just a quick question, all the blocks I cracked before I join do get assigned to the team right?

Wizard, if you joined Sunday, it applies. The blocks you cracked prior to joing Team Sysopt will only go to Sysopt if you were not a member of another team!

Joined last night and my Linux server has been crunching away! How do I tell how many keys I am doing per second? Do I need to wait until my stats page is up or is it somewhere on the client display?

randy48
07-17-2001, 08:49 AM
tarpat1, to benchmark in Linux, CtrlC to stop the client, ./dnetc -benchmark

Also to see all the commands available ./dnect -help

Hope this helps!

I checked my stats and it says only 41 blocks, But I sent in like 100 more packets and few mins ago. How many blocks are in a packet? When does my stats page refresh?

tarpat1
07-17-2001, 11:35 AM
Thanks Randy I'll try that when I get home tonight. Also how do I run the client on my other boxes. They run Win2000 and Win98, do I just use the same id information in the client setup?

randy48
07-17-2001, 02:50 PM
The number of blocks per packet varies, so the only way to tell is watch the client crunch! Sometimes 1, other times 2-6! The stats at distributed.net update every 24 hours starting at midnight GMT, 6PM central US. The stats on the team proxy normally update every 15 minutes or so. There are times when Virus is working on the system/server/database and it slows down or is off-line, blocks sent will not usually be lost, the client will try several times and if it cannot connect, it will flush to dnet directly.

To run the client on other machines, just install it and copy your dnetc.ini file into the distributed.net directory (the same ini file works with all platforms), no need to configure unless you want to do some tweaking! For Windows boxes, it is best to use the Win32 installer version of the client, click next on all default settings, after the install, a window with come up asking if you want to configure and run the client, uncheck both boxes, next/finish, copy the ini, double click the .exe and a crunching you will go!

I yelling!
ALL NEW MEMBERS...WELCOME TO THE TEAM!

Be sure to remind me when the time comes about the blocks I owe! It might take a few days to get them out to everyone, but they'll get there sooner or later!

Also, don't just settle for crunching blocks on your own machines, check with [people in charge[/b] and see if you can get permission to run the client at work or school. Also, get your friends to help out! A thousand bucks could be split several ways and still buy a processor, mainboard, hooker, etc http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif The more blocks you put out, the more chances you have of winning! And the faster you and Sysopt/Tweakit move toward the top http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Happy crackin!

Oh ya! Questions related to RC5/Distrubted computing should really be posted in the Distributed Computing Forum. That's the secret place that most people at Sysopt don't bother to go! One time I found a quarter on the floor and...
