Do any of you know of a good forum where I can get help with my Sony discman? I tried google but it's cluttered horribly.

Here's my problem:

I've had a Sony Discam (F-411 I think) for about 4 years. Around the discman's 2nd or 3rd year, it had a problem reading a music cd i had burned. But it still worked with store-bought cd's. Near the discmans 4th year, it stopped reading any kind of cd. It says "no disc" anytime I put a cd in. It would go through phases where it would work. If I didn't use it for a week, it would work fine, but if I listened to it for more than 5 minutes and then turned it off, it would go into it's dis-functional phase for a week. I went through last school year with it doing that. At the end of the year, it stopped going through phases. now it always wont read any cd. i tried the cd player 3 months after being turned off (no batteries either) and it still gave me the "no disc" error (yes i put a cd in:D). I have tried store-bought cd's, burned cd's, black cd's, everything. the lens has never been subjected to overly dusty or dirty places, and the lens looks clean (from what i can tell). Could a lens cleaner kit help? Is the cd player just dead?

Thanks

I absolutely would try a disk cleaner first before anything else. I have revived many cdrom drives just by cleaning with a kit.

Those are the two I have found. I think the 3M brand cleaner would be the best but I'm not sure. Where else should I look for lens cleaners, and what brand/model would you recommend?

I've come across some Sony discmans with similar problems, that the player wouldn't read the discs. Sony discman lens aren't really that good though, frankly speaking.

Why don't you bring it back to your authorised Sony service centre and have them repair it. It shouldn't really cost much, I guess.
