Has any used a Sony SPRESSA140ECH2 with a 200MHz processor? Why does there spec sheet say you need a minimum 233MHz?
I'm installing this for a friend and he really wants the Sony CDRW.

I donno really, I am building my daughter a newer machine and had bought that Sony for her. She asked that I send the Sony on to her so that she could back up some stuff early and I did. She is also running a 200 mhz AMD in an older board. I have not asked if it works properly, but assume it does or I would have heard back from her.

If you need a positive answer one way or the other I can email and ask how it works in her old machine.

I've got one of those as well. Works great. You may find that the slower processor will limit the recording speed.

I just had an ICQ chat with my son who is visiting his sister, and I asked him how the Sony worked in her machine. He said it worked pretty good...had a couple of buffer under runs, but other than that, it is doing ok.

I suspect that they tried to burn at the highest speed and caused the buffer under runs.

She has 128 mb of EDO ram in her machine, and I think that probably 128 mb would be about minumum ram for a burner in an older cpu and machine.

In your other thread, a couple of these were mentioned:

turn off the screen saver

put all music files to be burned in one folder

defrag the hard drive periodically

don't do anything else on the PC during the burn

BTW, I have the identical model Sony on a machine with a Celeron 466 and 128 mb RAM. I can burn at 8x on that machine without trouble.
