I decided to format my older computer with window me on it. And I didt make a back up. And don't have a Window ME CD. I was trying to install Window XP but right now I can't cause it saying This program cannot be run in DOS mode.

HELP!!!

I need this help ASAP!!!:eek:

lol **** you are in a pickle.

Don't worry there is a way that you can still install Windows XP

Get six floppy disks and make your set of the XP Setup Boot Disks

Go here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/q310/9/94.asp&NoWebContent=1) and download them. Works great.

aren't you booting from the winxp cd to do the setup? that's the easiest way.

if you're going from a DOS boot, then you would need to run winnt from the i386 folder on your cdrom drive.

I do have access to other computer. Unfounrately i tossed out my floppy drive from that other computer snice i put the computer inside my desk.

This Window me computer's cd rom is older techlogy and doesent alllow boot from cd.

Tomorrow i'll go to my friend house and use his floppy drive.



One question is it "piracy" if i use my xp cd on multi computers which I OWN?:confused:

you can use the same CD< but not the same CD KEY.

You can buy just the CD-Key at some online stores.

Intrestng. Is it cheaper than buying the CD with the cd key?

You can still install XP - you just can't activate it until you purchase a COA (certificate or authority), which includes a key.

Since you didn't mention whether this is Home or Pro and whether it's Full, Upgrade or OEM, I can't give further advice.

It's a XP Home edition Full verison OEM I belive. It came with my computer when i bought it.

HEHE I found my Window ME CD so thank u guys for trying to help me out.

Right now it's back to Window ME but Fresh install.

It's faster now than before.:t
