I currently run a usb optical mouse and I was wondering if I should put the ps2 adapter on the plug because it seems that the Cpu usage goes down when moving the mouse and it goes up when not using it. The "Doc" said that usb modems hog the cpu so would usb mice do the same?

Not necessarily. I would try it and see. If you get the PS2 adapter and cpu usage acts normal, then I would suspect a bad/corrupt USB driver.

I use a USB optical mouse and I would use the ps/2 adapter but it makes it really slow.

Naa, leave it as is.

It don't use enough to bother, IMHO anyway.

I too have noticed some systems CPU usage goes down when moving the Mouse(PS-2) and up when stopped.

Yet others are the opposite, moving the mouse causes the cpu usage to increase, which is what I would expect,, very odd indeed.

The general consensus on USB devices is that they use some CPU time.

I for one do not care.
I also use Soft Modems, I also Do NOT game on-line for it to matter. And most of my machines are above 333mhz, the few below that use hardware ISA modems.

So leave it as is.

You may need a spare PS-2 modem to navigate in DOS, like when running SCANDISK in DOS.

p.s.
Be careful taking my advice, even though I've been tearing them apart for over 3 WHOLE years, I'm still very much a rookie.

This wimpy surfer I use for all my on-line stuff has a MicroSoft Optical Mouse.

Checked System Monitor just now.

The Cyrix MII 433
w/ 384 RAM
15gb IBM 7200

Shows 1-2% CPU usage, online w/NO mouse movement

Moving the mouse in a rapid circle ups the poor underpowered Cyrix to 30-33% CPU usage

Normal or not ,, for this wimpoid system ?

Maybe that happens because the new cpus can process more data so it will lower the numbers because it is hardly working and when it is not moving it is waiting for the mouse to move so the numbers are higher.
