This will be my last resort before i call ASUS. I am trying to connect the onboard firewire to my case and am having several questions. First of all to state my hardware again:

ASUS P4C800 Deluxe
Thermaltake Xaser III Super Tower

The concern is the wires required for the connection, sadly thermaltake does not have an adapter that has all the connections in the correct order. In the case manual, the wires are listed as:

GND
GND
VG
VP
TPA+
TPA-
TPB+
TPB-

this is the online user's manual for the board: http://www.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock478/P4C800/e1224_p4c800.pdf Check page 56 for the layout of the firewire connection.

Now, the TPA's and the TPB's are easy to install. the case manual goes on telling how to install the other wires:

Power Pin: connect VP to that
Ground Pin: connect VG to that (nex to VP)
Ground Pin: connect the two other GND connectors to those

So, there is only one power pin with the case and there are two +12v connections on the board. Which one do i connect the VP cable to?

There's only one Firewire port on the case. You're only using one bank on the motherboard, right?

Yes. there is only one bank on the motherboard, but there are two +12V places to put one connector. i just don't know which to put it on.

I can't get the manual. You're going to have to give me the motherboard pinout.

There are two banks on that header. You have one port in the case. Only wire the side with the extra ground - the negative side.

OK, i must have misunderstood what bank was defined as...

This place is a haven for for amateur people like me, a spent a few hours trolling and found loads of information that will help me build this new computer...

Thanks for the help!

You'll have to ask again if I'm wrong, of course. ;)

So far its working! windows recognizes it as a fire wire port, i have yet to use a device which requires it...

i'll have the external drive soon...

thanks!
