Well you can't optimize software for hardware that won't run it in the first place. (tongue in cheek) :D

right now i think ati is the best buy, the geforce fx series isnt so hot. its pretty expensive too fx5200 100 bucks and can be outperformed by a dx8.1 geforce 4 ti 4200 easily. and then...........then ati has better anti alias techniques so even tho nvidia i think has 8x AA, ati's 6x AA is much better.

although nvidias a great company and all they failed and did a lousy job on the fx series

right now ATI is my favorite and best company IMO

I just preordered my copy of Halflife 2 from Amazon... I really hope that release date of 30th Sept isn't missed by much!

Amazon are taking preorders for Doom 3 and I'm like - Wait guys, it could be 6 months or more before that's released!

Anyway I still have my goold ol' GF4Ti4600 - paid an absolute FORTUNE (£300) for it about 16 months ago, and in all honestly I would have thought it'd be obsolete by now. I'm surprised, only 2 major cards released since and not that much faster!

My processor however at 1800Mhz is starting to age gracefully now.

As long as I can play HL2 and maybe Doom3 when it comes out I'll be happy :t

Preorders I don't do as generally I can get it earlier by going to the store. Also I don't see paying full price for a game with an iffy release date. You know why they really have preorders - it's so they can play with your cash, thus generate revenue with it. The time value of money. Your losing money by paying ahead of time (not much though) and they are gaining some (again, not much) - and yes, this is even after inflation is factored in. Generally they come out with a bit more cash - I can se taking preorders a month in advance of a CONFIRMED to nearly 100% release date, anything else, that's just ridiculous. Duke Nukem Forever, Doom 3 - they are making a lot more cash of those since they have no or such a distant release date that they can play with the money more.
