Good Morning,

I am having a minor problem getting onboard Lan & Router to connect. I installed a new mobo; same make and manufacture in a case with a existing HDD, CDRW, floppy etc. OS is XP Home, ISP is AOL Broadband.

After installing board, I went into Bios and enabled Lan, plus did a fresh install of the drivers. Device Manager shows Lan operating ok. I have set access for no dialup and activated in Lan Network. When I try to config router through IE I cannot access. AOL pops up and says unable to connect.

I have powered down and reset the router, modem and PC numerious times. I have checked Ipconfig in XP and it shows the AOL address; I called AOL and they are no help not the Linksys router address.

The router is working fine, I have a second pc plugged in and when I check the config everything is ok.

Any words of wisdom, suggestions?

Thanks,

CB

Unplug the modem for a few minutes and then fire it up again.

Update the LAN driver at www.ecsusa.com

Check to see if AOL is compatible with the router. If it isn't, switch ISPs.

If this link doesn't work, look at the Linksys site under AOL. There is a cable and a DSL knowledge base link.

Thank guys,

BB, I forgot about a driver update just used the old CD that came with the board.
How true about the router compatability. I started with a D-links then found out after much frustration there were AOL issues. Would love to say "goodbye" to AOL. Thinking about "Road Runner."

Midknyte, thanks for the site. I have gone through the AOL site plus the info on the Linksys CD. I guess can always disable and install a nic.

Just puzzled beacuse I swapped out a K7S5A to put in another machine and the onboard Lan worked great.

Will take another crack at it tonight.

BB, It appears I have a problem with the on board Lan. When I finally got connectivity. I "pinged" the router. had no less than two "timed outs." Generally dropped three of the four packets. So.... I will see if Fry's will excahanged it . Bought it in February and have used it offline. If they will not exchange I will install a nic, they are inexspensive.

Thanks for your help

That onboard LAN is touchy. With some Windows installations, it just won't work. Most times it's fine. Reinstalling Windows usually results in it working properly, but who wants to keep doing that? A card is cheaper, eh?

I just had the same router setup on my KS75A and two other computers. It works great and dial up networking works good too using the KS75A as a server. It can be done, but I had to hire a Romanian to get it setup right. Hire a pro, It's not worth the agravation to do it your self. Now that I have the configuration right I can do it again myself. I took notes. :)

Gentlmen, Your input is appreciated.

I am going to do give it another shot. Will do a clean install of XP and the Lan drivers. I have the time and who know, I may learn something.

Thanks,
