Most applications have a "Save As" on the <u>F</u>ile pulldown menu. You can brows to the folder you want to use, and with some, it becomes the new default destination.

Of course, it's a good idea to create and name the new folder first. I usually do this in Windows Explorer.

Beemers explains how to change the default save location in this thread (http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/009819.html) .

I don't think you can delete the "My Documents" folder without using a registry hack... or a program like TweakUI. If you need the "hack" I'm sure I can find it by sorting through my links. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

You can change the location of my documents to your preference. Say like %Root%\My dcuoemnts.
The registry subkey is HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\Shell folders.

Change the "Personal" key to any valid folder on your hard drive.

I know in Word under-
Tools-Options&gt;File Locations, you can set set Docs to save by default to anywhere you want.
In Excel-
Tools-Options&gt;Default File Location, just type the path

For those of you that don't like registry hacking or are feeling lazy, you can use the latest version of TweakUI to change the "My Documents" folder. It's under the "My Computer" tab.

You can also change a ton of other thing related to the user interface. I highly recommend it.

Using ME and 2000 there is a much easier way.

1)right click on "My Douments"
2)Choose first tab "Target"
3)Change Target location

Easily done. No special reg hacks or programs.

I have 3 pc's networked at home and all use the same "My Documents" folder. When you change it, the contents will move to the new location. Even if the new location already has documents in it.

I hope this helps.

Hi there,

The option to change the path of 'My documents' folder is already there in Win98SE. Just right click on the icon in the desktop and click 'Properties'. Then set the target.

What Windows are you running? Even if you are running Win95 with IE4/5, I think this option should be there too.
