OK,

Just upgraded a friend's PC to xp-pro.

PIII 450
256mb RAM

He has an Artec wrr-4848 cd writer and nero 5.5.9. I tried to burn a test disc to make sure everything was running smoothly after the upgrade.

The burn seemed to go OK in the sense that it did all the right things, but when i tried to browse the disk afterwards there was nothing on it and XP saw it as a blank disk. I tried using Roxio as well and got the same thing.

2 questions

Anybody seen that before?
How do i fix it?

You didn't give us enough detail. If you just upgraded without uninstalling and reinstalling the burner programs, that's a mistake.

XP has a native burning engine provided by Roxio. Explore a blank disk and then drag and drop the files you want on your CD in the window. Click "Write these files to CD" on the upper left and see if it works.

Sorry. It was a clean install from w98 and i was relying on XP to provide the drivers for the burner. I have already tried XP's native burning software and i got the same results.

It went through all the steps and then when i went to browse the CD...zilch

I would surmise that the burner is faulty in this case. It sounds like the burning laser is out.

If you installed Roxio and Nero simultaneously, that would cause serious issues as well.

Nah i blew Roxio away before i installed Nero. I don't know if maybe the burner was kaput in the first place. I hope it was or i'll get blamed for buggering it.:t

I've had the same problems with XP's built in Roxio software and it's not my burner - I'd suggest you stick with Nero - solved my problems and it's so much better :t
