I think outside apperance is important even if the inside isn't that great.
I must admit that I have a pretty much beige case.

Sometimes a plain jane grey case can look better than some imac style colored plastic thing or a badly thought out mod. I plan to mod my case at some point, but grey is fine for now. Sometimes they look cool with loads of drives in or with the case off. I like the inside tidy, im thinking about a neon light inside, but thats becuase i burned the carpet with a desk lamp when i was oc'ing, i smelt smoke and thought id blown the computer up http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Since the brainstorming forum has been removed I thought I'd just post this topic here... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

How important is the visual aspect of your box? Do you settle for the old gray box or do you want something special to hold the massive power you've put together in your computer.

Personally, I'd like my box to look special, even tho it's nothing special computerwise. My next box I want with a Black/Mirror(chrome) case. I'd also like to custom paint my 'ol gray case somehow...

What's your opinion? Is internal power alone enough or should you go for external appearance as well? I say if you've got the power, show it off! Hehehe.

I think that if you personally mod/paint your case you will like it more than if you had a regular case or bought a colored/funky case. Just because you did it yourself.

Painted my case blue and it may not look as professional as my friends' silver/black alienware cases but I still like mine better (but then again maybe I just like blue better http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif)

Just my own opinion, but I prefer function over form. If it looks flashy or colored(yuck, like a mac), I'm not the least bit impresed. My idea of a good looking case is one you dont see at all.

Sorry hawkeye178 but I have to say this. hawkeye178 is in the market for a new comp and he will not settle for normal case. so he looked around and he found this case on ebay. I have to say it looks nice but, i will stick to my full tower. I think he found the right case for him.

Why do Macs deserve a "yuck"? Ever seen a PowerMac G4? A G4 Cube? A Titanium PowerBook G4? An iBook (the new one)? Those are beautiful machines. Did the iMac ruin Apple's masterful industrial design department (even though an iMac in Snow or Graphite is awful purty)

And frankly, I find it hard to not see a case unless you never need to use your CD/CD-R/DVD/floppy drives.

Whenever I can get the cash to custom-build a new PC, you can bet your sweet bippy I'll be improving upon the ole' beige box (tastefully done, of course). I'm going to paint the main case glossy silver, and paint the front blue. I'm also putting a blue window with a blue light behind it in the side, and painting my name in Japanese characters on the side. I think that a powerful computer deserves to be attractive.

If you really want the no case look......
www.7volts.com (http://www.7volts.com)

Look under case mods it has a link of a guy who hid his case behind his wall and put a hold for cables and for his DVD.

Also, I agree function over form but that doesn't mean you can't combine both in one with a little bit of creative thinking.

I'm not big on painting my cases but I do prefer a clean and tidy inside (http://www.digitalmntsnow.com/images/vp6cpu.jpg) !

I saw this pic once of a guy who custom built his case out of plexiglass/acrylic. It looked cool. Definitely something for the LAN parties. Everything was out, or is that in, display. I don't know about proper EMI shielding.

If I ever do go insane, I'd build myself a plexiglass case with a compartment on one side for a small airconditioner unit for case cooling. Might duct some cold air onto the heatsink too. Just a thought, or a dream for that matter.

One of my friend's dad had a really cool case. It wasn't very fancy in design as it was mostly just a simple grey-ish tan color with neat black trim. What was cool about it was the vast array of LEDs on the case.
It told you everything about the current state of the computer such as the power (off, on, hibernate, low-power); the monitor; the CPU temp, speed, and load; the hard drive load; internet status (connected, upload, download); and custom alerts for things like emails or the finish of a program doing something. It looked like it belongs on the bridge of the Enterprise.
It was kind of overkill, but nevertheless pretty cool.
