I am wanting to move all my old e-mail and such from my old computer to the one I just built. I use family logon on both of them.
All my old information is under my name in the "profiles" folder and that is where I have moved it to on the new one. However, when I open Outlook Express on the new one it is not looking under the "profiles" folder. Is this a registry thing that tells Outlook where to look.
I've got just about everything I want on my new one. This is hanging me up for now.
Why don't you try a freeware program called DBXtract. It's probably the easiest way to move the e-mail.

Are you trying to move the email folders? like inbox, sent etc? If so go tools options-maintenance. Tell it what folder to use.

You can also do a search for all *.dbx files, copy them and then paste them on the new computer.

With Outlook Express you can import the folders. Just copy the folders from C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{2C84D940-6B2A-11D5-9BE2-A6559FE1485C}\Microsoft\Outlook Express on your old machine to your new machine, somewhere on your hard drive. Open OE and in the toolbar click on File, Import, Messages. Navigate to your saved folders and import them.
If you want your Addressbook as well, It's in the Microsoft folder below Identities.
Cheers!

Thanks everyone for your help. Give me a day to work on this and please check back. We have been without power most of the day, bad storm. That's the only reason I'm up right now, turning everything off that just came back on.

First of all in the tool/options/maintenance I was able to set the location of the folder. So far so go. I have transferred everything from my old computer but the mail is there however I am losing my news groups.
I have tried several times but every time I open Outlook I have no news groups. I can then go back in windows explored and check the folder and they have disappeared.
I haven't tried DBXtract, maybe I should but this has me puzzled.

Concerning my earlier post on this subject on July 10. I have been able to transfer my mail and my address book but not my newsgroups to my new computer. Windows explorer will show all the .dbx files in the new folder but when I open Outlook Express I have no news groups. I can then close it and go to windows explorer and all the dbx files concerning the newsgroups are gone (ones for the mail remain). I did this 3 times with the same results. I am not having any luck trying to import them either. I can't remember what message I was getting there but I was not given the options of browsing the network for the old files.
