I was just wondering: Are those ppl @ RIAA and MPAA going to go after users who use mIRC, eDonkey, and eMule to download movies, music, and other kinds of ****? I'm curious... and a little bit concerned.
Thank you.
The Fuhrer
They'll go after the next easiest target, your best bet is to not be involved.

Yep, they'll jump onto whatever the big dopey masses make the next big thing, thats why Kazza's getting it in the neck, because its simple enough for most peole to use and thus used by millions as opposed to sumink liek Direct Connect, which is for people with their heads screwed on only

Ah, you give me a lot of hints, Mr. Hitler. I know exactly who you are.
Welcome back to the forums.

Yeah, Jakk, but what network do you think they're going after? mIRC? eDonkey? eMule? IMO, it would be tough for those SOBs to sue those who are using mIRC.

Mr. Hitler, you know there are european equivalents of the RIAA.. in every european country... they just haven't taken any action yet...
As far as the RIAA is concerned... It's a domino effect. Once they think they've "cleaned house" at KaZaA and Grokster, they'll go after the others, Emule, Edonkey, mIRC, etc.
Very ironic that mIRC started out as a chat client and is now a major filesharing device. I don't think that's what the author intended it to be. :p

By the time those SOBs start going house to house searching for stuff downloaded through mIRC, eDonkey, and the like, I'll be long gone... :D

Hehe... I'll be surfing in the North Pacific Ocean, dude. I'll be at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, which, by the way, is rated as one of the top schools in the U.S. (I personally looked it up.)

BTW: A PhD at UHM is good enough for me.

You know piracy is not condoned in these forums... discussing it is not such a good idea.
BTW - UH is part of the US, smart one.

Sooner or later the legal copyrite precedents will be challenged.
The concepts are actually very unsound (hehe) - and it will be on a legal backburner until the final episode of Starwars. Laws are there to be challenged. :r

You know you can't get a PhD at UH, they only offer master's degrees. Technically you have to go to another uni.

I can't say I disagree with you there. Copyright laws are based on outdated concepts not very well suited for internet media.
Unfair/unjust laws are there to be challenged.... but not recklessly.

One more snipe then i'm off this topic.
Is it fair or just for whole swathes of the Marketing industry to target and manipulate teens and kids as they do? and then slaughter them for biting back.

It seems that the music industry wants to gain every penny lost. Those SOBs are hungry for money! And they're even targeting innocent people like teens and grandparents.

Hey, no need to snipe!
I was more or less agreeing with you there. The RIAA is doing the right thing for the wrong reason to the wrong people. They are greedy, and they are suing underpaid part-time workers.
But I guess I'll shoot back: What did showing the finger do for Mr. Anderson? They bugged him anyway.
IMHO, civilly protesting is much better than gunning down record shops, in a metaphorical sense.

BTW, Mr. Vapor, once I'm settled, I have my PhD, and I own a store, you know what I'm thinking about doing? Video Reviews. That's right. Maybe I'll give ol' Reynolds a run for his money...

A. Hitler
08-26-2003, 02:12 PM
I'll take that into consideration, my friend. BTW, my Video Reviews will be different and a lot better than Rodney's. (Have you noticed that he's hardly in the videos? He should be holding the product and talking about it instead of talking about it and having the camera focused on it 100% of the time. )

But oftentimes he says wrong stuff and stuff that shows he doesn't know what he's talking about.
It's not just the dynamics of the videos, (which as you mentioned, sucks too); more importantly, it's the core information. :(
A. Hitler
08-26-2003, 02:16 PM
Have you seen his video reviews on memory modules? It's basically the same thing over and over again. There's nothing to write home about, basically. And you're right. More juice, more information, needs to be put into the video reviews.

I wonder which association is software ? are they doing anything on sueing ppl that d/l software on p2p?
Forget about Kazaa! It's the era of BitTorrent and Shareaza...

Bittorrent is even easy to track as it shows your IP right in the program if you just look at uploads. BT is not a wise choice at all.
