I set up a Cisco 800 series router and it worked for one week. Then I lost the link and could not get the router back on line. I can ping the local LAN side but not the Local WAN side. Does that mean the Router is faulty or won't I be able to ping the local WAN side if the link between the routers is faulty.

Thanks.

Which model - have you altered your config file or access lists?

Include a copy of that.

Have you checked that the actual wan is up and running?

Check the router config :-

int fa0/1

Line is up , protocol is down?

or

Line is down , protocol is down?

Your ip access list is a bit secureless!!! Its always best to lock a firewall down completely and then open up necessary ports but then again maybe you want it this way - who am i to argue!!!

Config looks ok - the line protocol going up and down like that is symptomatic of a dodgy cable or csu/dsu or router - try replacing the cable and give your isp a call and get them to check the line.

The error is the Ethernet hardware is requesting data faster than the system can supply it. This condition might indicate that the system is at the limit of its performance or faulty - probably the latter if you have ruled out the above cable etc and your router is not used much in terms of bandwidth.

What serial connection are you using - synch or async
Remember async serial must be PPP encapsulation only
Async can be hdlc or ppp.

ie

int s0
encap ppp

Yes we use async and ppp. I think I see the problem as below.

I went to the Cisco.com site but is not registered to download the software.

Have you tried uploading a new IOS?
Looks like the hardware is duff otherwise.
Might be a faulty memory chip or memory may need reseated

%PQUICC-3-UNDERFLO: Unit [dec], underflow error
Explanation While receiving a frame, the local buffer of the controller chip transmitted insufficient data because the data could not be transferred to DRAM fast enough to keep pace with its input rate. Normally, such a problem is temporary, depending on transient peak loads within the system.

Thanks, I do not have access to the IOS. I think you are correct to say the problem is the software. I sent it to the suppliers for a reload.
