I have been using a BEFSR41 Linksys 4 port router with my cable modem. It has worked great. I got a great deal on a WRT54G Linksys Wireless 4 port router and am now hooking things up again. The wireless router doesn't seem to have a firewall at the time (Linksys says it may come in a firmware update). What I want to do:
-Have six hot wired ports throughout my house
-Be behind a firewall (hardware)
-use my networked printer

I'm thinking I need to use one of my routers as a switch. I only know how to configure my routers through a web browser, but they both have the default 192.168.1.1 address. How do I configure both of them while hooked up?

Change the default IP for the 41 to 192.168.1.2 and then hook up the other unit. Disable DHCP on the new unit.

Thanks BiPolarBill,
Most of my problems are solved after doing what you say. I am able to print, and my wireless is working up to a point. When I first set up as you say:
41 to 192.168.1.2
54g to 192.168.1.3 (in case I need to reset)
DHCP turned off on 54g

all works well. However at some unknown point to me, I am not able to access the internet. I need to do more trouble shooting, but am not sure where to start. Are there other settings that I need to configure on the 41 or the 54g? My comps and printer all receive IP addresses from the router(s) but I can't get out to the internet...
Thanks for your help!
Mike

Now I have the 41 set to 192.168.1.2 and the 54g set to 192.168.1.3. I updated the firmware on both. And all is working. I will see if all is still working in the morning. In terms of settings, all is at default except the above default IP addresses for the routers and the 54g has DHCP turned off.

The WAP probably is set to turn the DHCP service off if another DHCP server is detected. That's good.

I guess you're good to go. :)
