My girlfriend set a picture she found as the wallpaper on my pc. Now right before Win2000 finishes loading it flashes her wallpaper right before it goes back to mine. It also does this while I am shutting down. It will switch from my wallpaper to hers and then shutdown.
I have deleted every single occurance of the picture that I could find...both from the c:drive and within the registry...please does someone have some suggestions as to how to get rid of this.
THanks

I'm not sure if windows2000 keeps wallpaper in the same place as win98 but you can try looking in...
C:\WINDOWS\WEB\Wallpaper or the w2k equivalent. It has probably made a html page out of it which is why you can't find the jpg or any reference to it.
I could be on the wrong track here but it's worth a try.

This is just a guess, but if she set the wallpaper in IE as assume she did, could you set yours in IE to overide it?
Also, does win2k have active desktop or anything like that? Perhaps turning it off would stop it displaying if it was a html file like BITM@D sujested?
I've done that myself. Like flea says, set another picture in IE as your wallpaper and the one she set wont come up anymore.
All you need to do it is change the wall paper to a different one through "Display Properties". Win2k will show the previous wallpaper that was used just before it boots to the desktop or just before it shuts down. Set the wallpaper to a plain color and then reboot the system and then change the wallpaper to the one you want to use.

Hi there,
Well, when you set an image a wallpaper through IE, it saves it as 'Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp' in the windows folder. Try deleting this file, if it exists.

I have done it the way NDC said.
Oh, it should be in the WINNT folder.

disable active desktop and see if that works. if you want the picture as a desktop and its jpeg open it up and save it as a .bmp. simple

Easy solution:
- Go to display properties
- Choose the web tab and uncheck Show Web content and say No to the message
- Go to the background tab and select None for background
- Now you can choose the picture you want and it will turn on the active desktop
