What are some of the most handy or useful programs on the net for free or for pay. I want my computer to be as handy as possible so having things such as good scan disks, programs that do stuff that is good, etc. Just the best what a lot of people use that I probably don't know about.

start with CNet, ZDNet, maybe nonags for freeware, or use google and you'll get a ton of hits - some are good, some are bad, some have unintended effects so install 'em one at a time - if you don't like them or they're not what you're looking for uninstall the program right away and move on......

remember, some of the more advanced tweaking and optimization programs can screw up your registry if you don't know what you're doing so be careful, or you'll be posting another thread pretty soon - this time with a problem you can't figure out
