Hey - does anyone in your neck of the woods know that you need a wireless access point (WAP) to make this work? Hey - does anyone in your neck of the woods know that you need a wireless access point (WAP) to make this work?

Wrong, but SO helpful for a moderator.

Look for a tab on the cards properties that give you an option to run the cards in Ad Hoc. Wireless equivalent of a wired peer to peer network. You'll have to make sure they're both on the same channel and using the same SSID. Coverage might not be as good as using an AP but Ad Hoc is very viable for a two client WLAN.

Sorry, I have a question.

I read that article you posted, Bill, and I was wondering if some company or another has made a wireless internet for dumb-heads.

By this, I mean that the router doesn't need to be plugged into a computer to actually function. :\

Yasee, I'm in a downstairs room, and the DSL router is right above my room. My 'landlord' won't let me drill holes, so I want to set up a wireless network.

I could bring up my computer to the modem and try the initialization of the router from there, but I'm not sure if it'll work once I disconnect the cable running from my computer to the router. :\

Not sure if that makes sense...

Also, my wireless PCI card keeps saying it can't connect to the internet, so it just stays disconnected.

Last time I tried (before my old HD got ate and I had to buy a new one) to set it up, it was putting out a signal, but there was no router to pick it up.

It's not on Ad hoc, it's on infrastructure, so could that be the reason/case?

I really have no idea, but basically, my question is: Are there wireless routers out there that you can just plug into the modem, and they work in conjunction with your wireless PCI card? Kinda, automatic-like?

If you don't know what the hell I'm talking about, don't bother responding, because I think I'll just drill a series of secret holes just to spite her for letting the ants eat my old HD, which cost me $100+

Yah - just add a wireless router. Stick with the same brand and type:

Infrastructure mode requires an AP.

Dont worry Kw - Bill frequently forgets his extra strong caffeine injection in the morn - tends to git a bit tetchy!!!

Well, I'm not a "fair-weather" member. I'm not very forgiving of poor netiquette and I won't apologize for my reaction to it.
