It won't work.

Update is reactive - the problems happen and are patched.
Should reduce scale of probs but it is not an answer.

If a concern accepts M$ defaults and has business impacted - who will get the blame?

They do that already?

I heard a goo done today, what they should do is produce an OS with EVERYTHING locked down. Every port, every access point, everything. Then when you say want to use MSN Messenger a pop-up box says "MSN Messgener wants to access the internet..." like a proper firewall does....

The problem with the internet world is there are too many numpty's who play around without a firewall. I'm getting broadband next week and have bought a hardware firewall because my parents haven't really got a clue and I want to be safe, I just wish others had the same knowledgable son :)

I have a 2nd system not connected to the internet, it's just for multimedia, how would this effect me?? It seems a stupid solution to something that MS has no bussiness doing, like invading my computer without my knowlage! Would my system shut down? Would my system start creatying BSOD 'cause it's complaing no access to the internet?? Would my system start poping up windows telling me I have a problem an need to connect to the internet to solve this?? What could MS DL to my computer with out my knowlage???? a MS virus set to go off if I don't toe the MS line???? How would this effect modem users???? one gets on line to enjoy an evening of surfing the net only to find that ur DLing a 130mb patch u can't stop, if u shut down the internet an reconnect it just starts up again an it takes 30 hrs to DL????? only to find it F**** U* some of ur programs!

I like the manual way!!!! This way I can save'm to CD an if I ever have to reformat I don't have to REDOWNLOAD again!

Have a look at your registry.

Do a search in regedit for P3P.
One of the early hits has a tree including - History. Looksee.

If I read the article right the automatic update would be enabled by default. Hopefully that means you could change the setting...:t

The updated drivers M$ offers for vid cards and other things they don't manufacture will make it real interesting. AFAIK, they never get those right.

M$ has the capability to make the Blaster worm look good compared to the damage they can do.

You can't protect people from themselves. None of the recent attacks would have been successfull if people used firewalls, kept their anitvirus defs updated, and quit opening unknown email attachments.

The last thing Microsoft wants to see is a totally secure and stable platform. It would screw them up for years into the future.
