I just got the D-Link DI-614+ wireless router and had no problem setting it up with my D-Link AirPlus pcmcia (DWL-650+) but...

I also have an iPAQ wireless card (HNW-100) and its anything but.

After following all the instructions and then retrying everything still nothing. When the card is inserted it appears to have a signal and reports a connection but about 5 seconds later it says Wireless connection unavailable.
The Compaq Wireless Configuration Utility that came with the card reports excellent signal and as far as i know everything is configured properly, but it still can't see any wireless networks.

If anyone knows of any issues this card might have or has an idea what else i can check, i welcome all suggestions.

sounds like an authentication problem - check the card is a/b/g same as the AP
ssid?
wep key?
channel??

get a copy of airsnort and see what that comes up with
if you've already had one card in the ipaq have you done a soft reboot? that frequently fixes sync problems - personally the ipaq is a nightmare when is stops working as there isnt a lot you can do compared with a laptop or pc.

is the ipaq well charged - they suck a lot of juice when wireless is at full power 100mw

is the ipaq the latest os version?
did you check the instrucitons with the card , manufacturers website for info and patches???
:t

thanks for the reply but to clerify..

the ipaq HNW-100 is a pcmcia card for a laptop.

other than that, airsnort seems to be an tool for cracking encryption. i don't have any encryption as is so wep key is not an issue.
all of the devices support 802.11b
the ssid and channel or any other options or setups are hard to get to or unavailable since it doesn't see any wireless connections.
when in the View available wireless networks or something like that screen, everything is grayed out except for the cancel/close button.

oh, and the laptop is running winxp pro.

There should be a console port - usually utp on cisco but id imagine yours might be a 9 pin d serial to 9 pin d com type.

Personally I like to check every setting on an AP ---- Just in case?

Sorry yeah didnt really have time to read the post so when i saw ipaq i thought of this waste of £450 3950 i have at the mo, hopefully not for long...

try switching off upnp service in xp and SSDP discovery service

Checked for a driver update for the card?

If none of that worked Id be tempted to get another pc and test the card or get another card and test that on the desktop
Ive a funny feeling its the wireless drivers in XP - Ive heard there can be problems with certain cards diagnostics/discovery routines and xp's wireless zero configuration

Thats maybe a first thing to check - DISABLE WIRELESS-ZERO-CONFIGURATION under services in the control panel
