Sobig-F Overruns Networks, Email Traffic
August 20, 2003
By Sharon Gaudin
The latest variant of the Sobig worm is hammering corporate networks, crashing email servers, staggering Internet traffic and accounting for 70 percent of all email today, according to security analysts.
They also say Sobig-F, which was first detected Monday afternoon, is topping off what is being called the worst worm week in history.
"This is unbelievable," says Steve Sundermeier, vice president of products and services at Central Command Inc., an anti-virus company based in Medina, Ohio. ''We have never seen this sort of activity before... Sobig-F is causing substantial impact on business right now. Almost three out of every four messages will be Sobig or it will be a failed delivery message generated by Sobig.''

Think so?
ON a few of my customers (home users) with new Dells, they of course have a free year of MacAffee....
Maybe it's not setup properly...but, I just don't like it as much as Norton...
Too possesive of the machine, I've found.
I was talking Norton for a Domain, anyways...it's the best I've seen!

I've shut down 50 e-mail accounts and two e-mail servers to combat this and let the dang thing pass...i was getting an infected e-mail about once a minute for a good two days!
The mail servers will probably stay down until sunday, but vacationers will just create a new wave when they get back to their desks on monday.
Gaaah!!!

I would...but we're not Exchange here.
This place is old school..using MCI as our POP email provider.

We've got a fat pipe...for sure.
And...hardly even putting it to use...most users are on the old school theory "Internet is bad for the workplace"
I try...but to no avail, to tell them that the Net is a source of great information and tools..
Oh well...more bandwidth for me:D
