HELP! I have accidently screwed over 2 computers... but for different reasons... One, I installed a program that lets the reader read CD-RWs, but now every CD that I put in, it thinks in an audio CD. Two, my other computer says that there is not enough memory to initialize windows... I can run it in safe mode though... PLEASE HELP ASAP!

As for the Windows problem..how big is your partition that you have windows installed on?? Remember that it is a pig for space..give it plenty of room (2+ GB).

What is the name of the cd program?
What did you do to your system before it started this problem? When are you getting hte error? What are your system specs?
We need a little more info.
Good luck

Yeah, thanks http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. OK, the CD brand is Pengo CD-RWs which come with a program you need to install to be able to use them. My computer that won't boot Windows 98 is a 700 MHz P3 and it says that there is a DOSMGR error or something and it won't initialize Windows. I did nothing before this, but I did install PC Accelerator 6000 and put on everything, but I went into safe mode and turned everything off and it STILL doesn't work...

For the Windows machine go into Safemode and "REM" out everything in the Autoexec.bat and config.sys files Or make copies of them as save those as autoexec.sav and config.sav and then delete everything in your currect two files. (windows doesnt require ANYTHING in those two files to run...only other things SOMETIMES need things within those file)
Reboot and windows should boot up.
As for the CDRW problem. Bootup in safemode again and go add remove programs and uninstall the offending program. Reboot. You might have to reassociate data cd's to their applications

Sorry, but what do you mean when you say "REM" out?

I got 2 ideas to try.
First go in in safe mode and uninstall the PC accelerator program. sounds like a memory manager or something, and those generally do more to slow the system down. In this case it may be crashing your system.
Second run system file checker (start-programs-accessories-system tools-system information. Then click tools-system file checker.) this will find any missinf or corrupt files and prompt you to replace them. Since you don't have access to a CD-rom in safe mode copy the file to you hard drive in DOS (Command prompt with CD rom support). You may want to xcopy the whole windows CD since you have plenty of room.
As a second to last solution you can try a install in place. Just install windows on top of the old instalation. It'll leave all you files intact.

Sweet. Thanks. I found that the file d3dxof.dll is corrupt, but I'm not following you on what to do after that...

Well, there are quite a few files that are corrupt... In addition to d3dxof.dll, d3dpmesh.dll and d3drm.dll are corrupt too... Any ideas?

All those D3D* files are for your DirectX. Sounds like your DirectX is corrupt. If you have the DirectX setup file on your hard drive, you might try to reinstall it while in safe mode.

Thank you guys so much for all of your help! I finally got my computer working, but I can't get my computer to read normal CDs because of the file Pengo installed... Does anyone else have this problem?

Oh, and I don't have a Win 98 disk, but I DO have a Win 98 Upgrade... Will this work? DOH! In safe mode, you can't use CDs...
