As long as you got the right CODEC it doesn't matter what player you use.

i tried the codec from dove19983's link but yet still have problems downloading the appropiate decompressor. thats with 6.4 media player as well. i have office space on a divx file and it know it works from a friend. i get audio, but only after the error message. i already have a dvd decoder card and dont want to use another program (like power dvd). id much rather use windoze media player. any ideas how to remedy this?

Try this DivX codec: divx 3.11 alpha ;-) (http://ftp.pcworld.com/pub/video/video_tools/divx_3.11alpha.zip)

The divx codec 3.11alpha/3.22beta didn't work in my w2k environment, had to use the opendivx codec.
But for playing as suggested wmp6.4 is the best. wmp7/7.1 is such a resource hog, ugly, and nonconfigurable that it should the fed to pigeons.
