Hey everyone, I just spoke to a friend of mine who is offering me a BB-ATI 9800 brand new in box, for only 200. I dont wanna get into why hes selling it for only 200, its a long story, but I wanna know the difference between the 9800 and the 9800 Pro. I know it doesnt matter, but if someone knows could you please tell me, i quite interested. Thanks!

Uh oh, what have a i done this time

erm... as for the r9800 non-pro, go for it, it may be marginally slower than the 9700 Pro but it has the full feature set of the 9800 Pro, in fact, all it is is an underclocked 9800 Pro, if the memorys decent you can probably overclock it to 9800 Pro levels and if not, if it has Samsung memory it can probably be successfully flashed with a 9800Pro BIOS, turnign it into a real deal 'Pro'. I recently picked up a Sapphire 9800np that wouldnt o/c to 'pro', did the BIOS flash and voila, im running a proper 9800 Pro, will overclock just like one too :D

I'm thinking about buying a raedon for my next upgrade. Do you think ati could produce a few more models to confuse us?

Now I think there's a '9800 pro ultimate too'. I guess maybe next it will be '9800 pro ultimate deluxe', then how bout '9800 pro ultimate deluxe extreme'.

So hard to know what to do..does a 9800 pro 256mb beat a 9800 pro ultimate 128 mb? It costs more but..geesh

Yes, but only by a marginal amount and in high resolution/detail modes that are usually so slow that FPS is on the border as to playable and choppy

As for Radeons naming scheme, its just as bad as Nvidias. As for the ultimate editions, i may be wrong, but they are simply the normal card but with passive, heat-pipe cooling AFAIK

i read in the gamestar (german computer mag) that u can buy half life with a RADEON 9900 PRO so a 9900 PRO will come out SOON

dont know where u can get this deal with the grpahic card or if they will actualy do it
but a 9000 pro will come out...i think

:)

I heard it was the 9800 Pro, which HL 2 is gonan take full advantage of in terms of the visual features offered by the chip

Interesting Jakk. And where can I get the BIOS flash done? I know what its supposed to do, but how is it done, and is it expensive?

Mines started giving a minor amount of artifacts under pixel shader tests, this is probably due to me having slow rated ram though thats on its limits (3.3ns), im gonna have a tweak tday see if i can resolve that problem somehow
