I think I messed up, I thought I had the MSI KT3 Ultra 2 266/333 6380 E Ver 2, but now it looks like I have the MSI KT3 Ultra 6380 E ver 1.0. That huge difference will not allow me to use my new Barton that is on the way. Here is a pic when – am I right ?

The plain Ultra cannot host a Barton. The Ultra and the Ultra2 are worlds apart in that respect.

Thanks for the links- but how do I find out which 6380E I have?
It does seem a bit strange that there are so many 6380E’s.

Opps, I just looked at all the manuals online and looks like MSI Listed the board type on the board—I did not see it last night because of a PCI card that was in the way. I was only able to see the 6380 E ver 1.0.
Does the KT3 Ultra come with Raid and USB 2.0 support, or is that a feature with the KT3 Ultra 2 or ARU only.

I'm pretty sure that only the ARU had RAID and USB 2.0. If there's an NEC chip on the board down bottom, it has USB 2.0.

Well then I am feeling exactly like your Avatar BPB—DumbA$$ that I am!
Anyway—looks like my newest system will need a few more upgrades than I thought!
I might look into theEP-8RDA+, (http://secure.newegg.com/app/shoppingcart.asp?submit=view) Is this the best one to get to match my new 2500+ Barton- is it true that this is a power hungry board?
Thanks

The 8RDA+ has a really hot northbridge chip. That uses power, so maybe. Still, it's a great board.

Thanks-- any other suggestions for me to research?
I was very happy with my MSI, but would like to try something else that compliments the Barton. This will be the last upgrade I buy before the 64s come out.
Looking for Minimal onboard, maybe sound and LAN.

That's a good one. If you don't need a USB cable for the PCI slot ports, get a Shuttle:

They both support 166MHz and both have LAN and USB 2.0.
