Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : WinME holds on to the parallel port
Ok, so I discovered that you can't possibly tell any Win9x that you don't have a floppy drive, it will always show at least a removable media icon...
Now, that WinME really, really wants a parallel port. Checked in the BIOS, it's disabled, yet MEster discovers a new one each time it reboots. That's is really bugging me.
Neither have I found a way to completely disable floppy drive. But the paraller and com ports can be disabled by just putting none in bios. My WinME doesn't find the serial ports nor paraller ports upon booting once they are disabled in bios. Who made yours? Mine is award =)

Have you tried deleting the Parallel Port entry in Device Manager?
The printer port is already disabled in BIOS (AWARD on ASUS P5A)and yes, I tried deleting it from the device manager in both normal and safe mode. No matter what I do, ME always finds one.
Try physically ripping it from the motherboard?
Seriously, disable it from device manager so it doesn't eat up resources if you cannot remove it.
