With bios updates how high can I go? I currently have a 1 gig t-bird oc'd to 1.2 gig. Can I stick a Athalon xp in or not? What is the fastest proc I can put in my board?

(MSI K7T pro2a)

KT133 can run 100 MHz bus processors only. If BIOS support for them is there, you can put the current 1.3 GHz Duron in, or 100 MHz bus Athlons. Athlon XP is 133 MHz or higher, no go. Even if you'd try running it at 100 MHz bus, it's highly unlikely they'll work because the BIOS for the old board hardly got updated to recognize processors that the board doesn't physically support anyhow.

So the best you can put in is the old 1400/100 T-bird.

hmmmm.... website (msi) says it will handle a 1.8 XP. It will default to 100mhz buss right? I was wondering if it would go higher than that..... or even if the 1.8 XP would work.

Strat1: You've got the wrong board... K7T not K7T266. The correct supported cpu list is below... but it loads pretty slow (for me).

If this board uses KT133A not KT133, then 133 MHz bus CPUs are possible, and given proper BIOS support, _might_ take you up to the 2400+.

No merit in buying a 1400MHz, 200FSB Tbird. If I were you, I'd get a 2400+, see if it works, and if it doesn't, just save it and get a new board.

Your board is seriously out-of-date anyway, and there are many sub-$90 offerings that will more than double your performance. :)

I would not upgrade your processor at all... First off a new processor (133 fsb) may not work at all, but even if it does, that chipset is too slow to really be able to take advantage of a considerably faster processor. Unless you can get a faster processor for free, I would just hold out and get a new board AND processor.

Stay with your OC'd 1.0Ghz for now... it's not that bad. Your board uses the KT133 so I doubt you'll get an XP to work... Save your cash and upgrade the board/cpu/ram at the same time.
