1. my regular job is maintenance at a nursing home.
i did this for 1.5 years, its indoors, air conditioned, and stable work meaning that
its reasonable free from layoffs, and i can probably hold this job for years and years. but i dont get up and really look forward to going in to work.
2. during my one-week vacation from job #1, i want back and worked in electrical construction , wiring newly built apartments.
this was what i went to night-school 4 years to get my journeyman's card doing. i enjoyed it alot more than my maintenance job. BUT construction has a big downside:
housing permits vary in my county from 5000 per year to
1000 per year. this mean that in slow years, 80% of those
working during the busy years will get layed off.

3, because i am the only wage earner in my family, the idea of depending on an industry with severe boom and bust cycles, and 80% layoffs during lean times, seems like a stupid choice.

4. however, i do enjoy the work as a electrician more than
the maintenance job.

5. i wish there was a way to do what i prefer and not suffer the severe negatives of the construction industry. ANY ADVICE ?

I agree with BillForce and Yoshi. I've spent 23 years of my life doing something I don't enjoy. Don't make that mistake. Do something you enjoy and the money will come.
I'm just now trying to figure out how to do something I like, rather than doing something just to get a paycheck. It's much harder to change these things later in life.
People who go for what they love are what inspires me to try new things and try to change my direction.
I can't even imagine what it would be like to wake up in the morning and look forward to work, but the thought of it excites me enough to try to figure out what I want to do.
Good luck! My prayers are with you. :t

Is there any way you could do those construction jobs freelance, to make extra money on the side in addition to your maintenance job?
