im having some really annoying problems
when i start up my computer i get an error message that says "the ati control panal failed to initialize because no ati driver is installed or the ati driver is not working properly. the ati control panal will now close."
sounds easy enough to install a new driver... THINK AGAIN!
ive tried running installation from the cd that came with the video card and it says "setup is unable to complete installation. try to setup your display adaptor with a standard VGA driver before running setup"
when i dl things off the ati website and try to install them i also get the same message.
plz help i cant play my computer games without a video card because it says Direct3d is missing or something like that :(

oh something to add... i just looked in dxdiag and it says this under the display notes:
The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.
To test DirectDraw functionality, click the "Test DirectDraw" button above.
Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.

Windows version?

Have you tried changing the display adapter to Standard VGA and rebooting to uninstall the old ATi stuff?

Once you do that, Update DirectX to ver. 9a and unstall updated ATi drivers.

Just go to Windows Update to get DX9a - or here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=141D5F9E-07C1-462A-BAEF-5EAB5C851CF5&displaylang=en

Change your driver in Device Manager > Display adapters > [ATi device] > Driver tab > Update Driver > Ok > Don't search > Show all > Standard types > Standard VGA.

Please don't ask me how to do this:

Update or just install the motherboard drivers for your PC. Check the brand in Device Manager > System Devices (ALi, Intel, SiS, VIA) and download the drivers from their site. Better yet, go to the motherboard maker's web site and get the drivers or the AGP/VGA driver there.

Uninstall the darned ATi drivers now.

Reboot and install the updated ATi drivers.
