My friend just got this board yesterday and can't get it to post. The board has power to it because the cpu fan and the video card fans come on, but no beeps or post screen on monitor. We double checked all conections and made sure all the screws were in the right places. What gives? Is the board fried?

I would check the message boards for Asus because there seems to be an issue with the batteries that they originally shipped with the boards. I'd get an Energizer 2032 battery and see if that solves your problem.:t

It is a long shot, and does happen. Make sure your mouse and key board are not connected backwards.:t

Remove the board from the case, place it on a soft, non-conductive surface near the case and plug in the ATX power. Place the vid card in and connect the monitor. Connect the power. Nothing else needs to be connected. Press down hard on the vid card and use your screwdriver to short the POWER BUTTON pins. See if it POSTs.

Wooo, that was all sorts of technical and such BpB, very cool :)

I actually keep spare case switchs handy for that sort of thing hehe :t

The 'battery' thing mentioned above normally fixes the issue with these mainboards, after you get it up and running, if you still have problems (eg, crashing inside the BIOS) make sure your memory is installed correctly, and not overclocked, and try to update the BIOS to a newer version (if Possible).

If not, skip to BpB's step to make sure hte mainboard isn't shorting, also - when you have the mainboard so you can see it when it boots, be certain the little red-light next to the AGP port is not lit as this indicates the boards it refusing to boot due to an incompatible 3.3v video card installed. (doesn't seem like this one would be a problem since its a new-er card)

If everythings good to there, try taking the memory out of twin-bank configuration (if thats how its installed), and running it in single channel/single-stick mode and try to boot it that way. Also check that the settings for the ram aren't too aggressive

If still nothing, check your powersupply and be certain that it is rated for 350W or better (300W if the +12v line is 18A or more, e.g. an enermax ATX 2.03 PSU), ensure that everything is seated properly and unplug each Disc/Hard-drive one by one and booting each time to make sure its not a bad logic-board with one of your disk drives.

If all else fails...

I dunno what to tell you *chuckles*, hope you get it working!

If yer case has front usb headers dont have them hooked up right now till ya get a boot. Cause it can prevent booting if wired wrong. And not all case headers work with all mainboard's usb header. Asus likes to use a filter cap-without it, it wont work at all. Been there.:( :t

Thanks for all ther replys. I figured it out, wasn't the mobo, it was the piece of junk video card he got. I never knew that if your video card is bad, your mobo won't do anything, no error beeps or anything, but I'll know next time. Trial and error. Great board! I think for my next video card, I'll stick with ati, His fx5600 benchmarks like ****, but this mobo is on my short list for sure...
