no sound from speakers

have SB_Live soundcard in gateway P3-866 desktop.

All i hear=hiss from both speakers.

According to control panel>device manager etc, soundcard installed and working correctly--i suspect card set for digital input but my system is analog??

any suggestions?

You'll have to verify if you're card using analog output mode via SB Live! tab in Control Panel, don't leave it "AutoSense", change it to "Analog" to force analog output.

Always check the basics, is the sound turned up enough? Are the speakers plugged into the correct jack on the soundcard? etc, etc...

Yes, make sure it is set to Analog and not digital or you will not hear anything. Check the regular sound options - click speaker icon in system tray, go to Advanced and see if Digital is checked or not.
