hi all,

At work, a colleague has an old 486 machine - 66mhz. A printer is needed for this computer. We have a Canon BJC-1000, which works on this machine, but it is not technically "ours" and need to buy a printer. When I searched for the BJC-1000 online, i could only find it on amazon.com for 100 dollars...the spending cap is 50-70 dollars. Any ideas on a printer in that price range that'll work on an old 486 machine? Thanks for any advice :)

P.S.
Computer is running Win 95, 16 mb RAM, Parallel port, no USB

If you go to www.driverguide.com (http://www.driverguide.com/) and do a "simple" search with the parameters "Win95",
"printers" and a generic brand like "deskjet", it will give you a list of all deskjets that will run on Win 95.

think you need to decide first if you want to buy an inkjet v. a laser printer (you can get refurbished HP laserjets in that price range - got one for my mom who was actually using a 386 and a DOS based app at her office - the HP5 and a third party driver worked fine)

inkjets are expensive in terms of cartridges, laserjets are more expensive but the toner last alot longer- the epsons and canons - from what I've seen - haven't always kept up with providing drivers for w95, w98 - had a problem with a Canon recently on that count....

try www.pricewatch and look around first
