I'm just starting to write reviews for my buddy's site. I'm going to be doing some case modding and I need some pics of the action.

I need a digital camera but I'm at a loss as I know nothing about them. I would really appreciate a cheap one. I don't need crazy high-res pics but good enough to make out any object I put in front of it.

What is the cost of an average camera? What How much is TOO cheap?

thx,
jin

I'll tell you this, if its under $200 its not worth it.
A decent, and I mean decent camera would be the HP315c. Its price is around $300 I believe.

If you are gonna post em on-line ,, stay away from large megapixel cameras..

That is unless you are gonna resize them in some photo software..

The Olympus Brio D-100 or Cammedia as some call it can be had at www.staples.com (http://www.staples.com) for about $218.00 w/free s&h

The reviews call it the Mercedes of 1.3mp cameras.

It's lens is a specially designed unit just for digital cameras.

I've got one and it's about the size of a pack of cigs but just a bit longer.

It uses the cheap smartmedia memory, see www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com)

Only 2 AA's needed, K-Mart now has some 1600mah ones, $10.99/4

Looks like a really nice $250 camera(with a purchase of a 32mb card)

Go to www.staples.com (http://www.staples.com)
technology
digital cameras

then use the www.techbargains.com (http://www.techbargains.com) coupon

I've got one, along with several other units that I've used/sold and this one is NICE.

Wow Richard_Cranium72 great reply. Just what I was looking for. Unfortunately I'll have to save some beans before I can get myself a good digi camera.

If ya got an old but good 35mm camera layin around you can always have the negs scanned to a photo cd for about 10$ a roll---just pay for the processing and skip the prints...

I got mine for free from Staples with the Officexp kickoff. You can buy one for $99 - maybe use a coupon and get it cheaper on the weekend flyers.

No digital camera will come close to a 35 mm film camera for image - so if you want one for the occasional snap shot of something to e-mail or throw on to a site at low pixels why spend more than this?

I have a Mini Digital camera that I bought from Computer Geeks that costed me 30 dollars. It does not take great pics but they are ok. also, you need a lot of lighting. Thanking pics outside is when the camera looks the best. If you want me to post some pics just yell.

I think the cheaper the digi cam the worse the quality.

I borrowed a friends Sony floppy camera over the weekend and got some surprisingly good shots, using the lcd viewfinder was odd to say the least, but was happy with what I got digitally, I just took "snapshots" all on auto, flash worked well, zoom and close ups came out good and the colors were pretty true, the newer Sonys have pretty good lenses, and use mem sticks or cd's instead of floppys (floppy models are still available) pretty good camera although abit pricey...

Here is an example:

I have a really cheap one (DLink DSC350)

It was like 80 bucks
Its horrible
good for 80 bucks
but its still such a pain to use
I have to shine 4 lights in the room (one directly on the target object) to take the pic since it has no flash. Also theres no LCD viewfinder on it.
Outside pix are great
Indoors...well...don't. Not unless u have a REAL digicam.

These (http://www.geocities.com/ed_s_429/truck.html) were taken with my Fuji MX1200, bought in late '99 for $230 including a floppy adapter for the SmartMedia cards!

Ahh, what the heck - the border's already blown out on this anyway!

That look OK, for an under $250 rig??

Also have an HP C20, which takes good pics as well, IMO, but don't have a sample close to hand...
